Mrs. Thornton [email protected]Mrs. Julie Thornton has 31 years experience in 1st and 2nd grades. This will be her 16th year at CCS. She previously taught in Deer Creek and Norman Public Schools. Mrs. Thornton earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from Oklahoma Baptist University, and a M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum from the University of Oklahoma. Julie was honored as a top five finalist for Norman Public Schools Teacher of the Year and is Nationally Board Certified as an Early Childhood Generalist.
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Thornton has served as Vice President of Elementary for OK Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She has presented at regional and state conferences on technology integration in reading and mathematics for Early Childhood educators. Additionally, Mrs. Thornton has been a consultant for Voyager Sopris Learning and McGraw-Hill Everyday Mathematics. Her family includes husband Brant, and son Ryder, a 9th grader. They enjoy watching OU football, OKC Thunder, vacations in Watercolor, FL and the Colorado mountains, or gathering with friends and family. As active members of Crossings Community Church, they enjoy social and mission projects with their Sunday School class. Mrs. Thornton states her favorite bible verse is Proverbs 3: 5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
