Grades/Assessments
We have high expectations for our students both academically and behaviorally. We desire to motivate our students to become lifelong learners and to work as if working for the Lord! It pleases God to do our best and we encourage students as well as ourselves to do this daily.
Daily Work
As second graders, students are given more independent practice. Our motto is "I do...WE do...YOU do." When daily work is not able to be completed during classroom time, the student will complete the assignment at home and return it the next day. If incomplete or missing work becomes a pattern and specific classroom strategies are unsuccessful, parents will be notified.
Homework
Beginning after Christmas, your child will start bringing home a Reading/Language Arts paper to complete at home. This page will come home on the first day of the school week and needs to be returned on the last day of that week. This page will have a passage to read, along with review skills to correlate with Reading and Language Arts. Please make sure to look over this page after your child completes it. As stated below, tests and homework fall into the category of work that can not be redone for a higher grade.
Please Note: Each 2nd grade teacher will use her discretion for grading assignments based on students’ needs.
Grading Scale
A=100-90
B=89-80
C=79-70
D=69-60
F=59-0
More Information
Late work is any schoolwork sent home for your child to finish because they ran out of time during class. It will be clearly marked at the top to "finish at home & return" and should be returned the following day completed. (Most of the time, they just need to finish a few.) It makes it easier to stay up to speed on the concepts taught when they finish the assignment the same day it was given. For each day that it is not turned back in, 5 late points will be deducted. This applies to homework as well.
Other Grading Info: Classroom assignments not passed (69% and below) can be redone and need to be turned in the day after they brought home. The original grade and the corrected grade will be averaged together for the new grade. Homework and tests do not fall into that category. The original grade given for homework and tests is the grade that will remain in the gradebook. If your child brings home a paper that does not have a grade, star, stamp or marking from the teacher, your child probably brought it home instead of turning it in for a recorded grade. PLEASE RETURN THE PAPER to school so your child doesn't receive a grade of a zero. You can monitor this using the RenWeb parent portal app.
